“I think I’m just lucky–I got the dog AND I got the guy!”

“I fell in love for the first time at 25 but two years later, the relationship ended and I was left heartbroken. It took me months to come to terms with it, but over time I realized that I didn’t want to give up on love. So last year in March, I gave Tinder a try.

I came across Aazman’s profile on the first day. His bio was funny–he joked about having deep conversations with his dog. I told myself, ‘If it doesn’t work out with him, at least I’ll get to meet the dog!’ I swiped right and it was a match!

15 minutes into the conversation, we realized that we lived only a few blocks away from each other! Aazman asked me if I’d like to go for a drive. In that short conversation, something in me trusted him, so instinctively, I said, ‘Yes!’ He picked me up and we drove around town talking about our lives. I found out that he was also heartbroken from a recent breakup. We spoke about our exes and how we were still trying to move on. I just felt comfortable opening up to him. The best part? After the drive, I met his dog, Oscar! It was the perfect first date! After that, we met almost every day. From going on drives to shopping and café hopping, we became each other’s go-to people. Sometimes, we’d even call each other to rant about our exes because no one else understood ‘us’ the way we did!

Slowly, we began melding into each other’s lives–when I told my sister about him, she said, ‘What are you waiting for? Go for it already!’ I laughed it off because we weren’t interested in labels, but deep down I knew it was more than friendship.

But I never said anything. Neither did he. Then one day, at a friend’s party, while goofing around, Aazman laughingly said, ‘Hey, I like you!’ in front of our friends and intuitively, I blurted out, ‘I love you too!’ When I realized what I’d said, I was red with embarrassment. But the music was loud–I kept hoping that he hadn’t heard me clearly. The whole night, he kept asking me what I’d said, and I’d blush and change the subject. It wasn’t until the next morning that he told me, ‘I heard what you said last night. Were you serious?’ When I told him I meant it, he was so happy!

Although he became my ‘boyfriend’ that day, nothing really changed after that! We were still each other’s best friends. He’d once overheard me mention to someone how much I loved her watch. So, for my birthday, he went pillar to post to find that watch! I was so touched! A few months later, we even met each other’s parents, and they also realized that we were perfect for each other.

Honestly, Aazman and I found love when we least expected it! We’re so different yet so compatible. He loves traveling while I prefer staying in, but at the end of the day, we’re each other’s favorite destination! And I joke with him about how his dog now loves me more than him. I think I’m just lucky–I got the dog AND I got the guy!”
